Caston County, North Carolina – A North Carolina family searches for answers after their loved ones were fired from a job they’ve been doing for more than 20 years.

Dennis Beck has Down syndrome and was planning to retire soon from Wendy’s in Gaston County.

Beck’s family is now defending him after finding out that he was fired without notice.

They said the store manager fired Peek because he “was not able to do his job as a normal person.”

“I’m here because I need to be his voice for the way he was treated,” Beck’s sister Kona Turner said. “He doesn’t understand and we can’t tell him he’s been fired. We didn’t tell him and we won’t tell him.”

Turner said she didn’t know what to do and took her heartbreak and frustration to Facebook to spread the word.

Thursday morning, Turner said she received a call from the Carolina Restaurant Group that owns and operates Wendy’s saying it could be returned next week.

Kona stated in a Facebook update that Peek will not be returning to work at the restaurant and will attend the retirement party he wanted.
